Been doing some nice work with GSS working with some very talented people including drummer Pauli Stanley Mckensie (aka The PSM). Here’s a Time Lapse video I took of Paulie during rehearsals for a show we did in Fortaleza, Brazil.

DJ’ing here tomorrow for a really good cause with the Aspecks crew who have always been very supportive of my work.

The Global Citizen Jam is to be a fundraising event seeking to raise money for Cais Maloka (a sustainable community project in Colombia) and the Aspecks Global Citizens Campaign (as Aspecks seeks to expand its operations to Accra, Ghana).

I really enjoyed collaboratiing with so many talented people on my last LP ‘Ye Fre Mi Richy Pitch’. Now I’m spending some time producing and remixing songs for some of the artists on this project.

Yasmeen recorded the lovely song ‘Dey Suffer’ on my LP (see side bar on left). She recently gave me a beautiful vocal to remix that she recorded in Ghana with legendary producer and studio engineer Zap Mallett. Now it’s complete you can preview it on my Soundcloud page. Africa Express Soundsystem at the Standon Festival on August 14th.

I’ve been very lucky to be involved as DJ in a number of great shows with Africa Express.

This forthcoming headlining show at the Standon Festival on August 14th will be put together as a soundsystem performance with lots of African musicians and artists performing their own songs and new songs using both turntables and live Music. Artists included in the line up are M3NSA, Terri Walker, Tor Cesay, Mic Righteous, Baloji, Fatoumata Diawara, Kora player Diabel, percussionist Musa M’boob and the Gorillaz Soundsytem band including drummer Pauli Stanley-Mckenzie, percussionist Remi Kabaka and keyboard player Jesse Hackett. The show also will be accompanied by some very cool visuals supplied by Roland Hamilton.

Mulatu Astatke Live @ The Jazz Cafe!! Thursday 26th May

This week I’m lucky enough to be DJ’ing before and after the legendary Mulatu Astatke at the Jazz Cafe. I’m a big fan, check the event here by clicking on the pic below.

I probably first discovered his music over a decade ago, through a friend of mine, Geoff Wilkinson (US3 Producer) when he played me one of Mulatu’s classics ‘Yegelle Tezeta’ (1974). Listen to it here:-

Since then I’ve bought quite a bit of his music, favourites include ‘Addis Black Widow’, ‘Yefikir Tizita’, ‘Mulatu’s Mood’ and ‘Esketa Dance’. His music is a beautiful fusion of Jazz and influences from his homeland of Ethiopia. Amazing stuff!!
